Season Kickoff: 2013

The 2013 DCI season kicks off in Mesa, Arizona on June 19. Once the corps are on tour again, I'll be posting a lot more with news, scores and more. I can't wait for 2013!

The 2012 Drum Corps Season Has Begun

With now nine Drum Corps shows under DCI's belt, the 2012 Drum Corps season is officially underway. And get this: every corps who won a show broke 70.  I can tell that this is going to be a year for the record books.

On the sixteenth, in Akron, OH, The Cadets won with a score of 70.200.  In Louisville, KT on the seventeenth, Carolina Crown took home the victory with a score of 71.300.  Two days later, in Albuquerque, Phantom Regiment came out on top with a 70.300 score.  Bluecoats were victorious the following night in Battle Creek, MI when a 70.200 score went into the books.  On that same night, Phantom took home another win with a score of 73.100 in Mesa, AZ.  Show number three on the night of the twentieth, in Martin, TN, had Carolina Crown on top with a score of 75.100.  The following night, in Dothan, AL, Carolina Crown won again with a score of 74.900.  On Friday, June 22, The Bluecoats came out on top with a 71.100 score.  And at our most recent show, a 73.700 score let the Blue Devils take home the victory in Clovis, CA.

First Show this Saturday

The first show of the Drum Corps season is almost here!  The Innovations in Brass show is taking place this Saturday in Akron, Ohio.  They have a great line-up to kick off the season.  Here it is, in reverse order of appearance:

Bluecoats - Canton, OH The Cadets - Allentown, PA The Cavaliers - Rosemont, IL Carolina Crown - Ft. Mill, SC Phantom Regiment - Rockford, IL Blue Stars - La Crosse, WI

Read more here.

They're doing something really cool this year.  At the end of the show, absolutely no person in the world, except the judges there that night, will know the final scores.  They will not be announced until Monday night, where that show is going to be re-broadcasted in movie theaters, and only then will the scores be announced.  I don't know who came up with that idea, but I like it.  Kudos, great thinker.

After the Akron show, the 2012 DCI season is in full swing.  The only two days this summer where there is not at least one show are July 4 and 5.  And with a lot of shows that look to be real crowd-pleasers, I'm sure this season is going to be one for the record books.

Indiana University Marching Hundred Performs at Super Bowl

In front of the Lucas.  A great background, don't you think?
The Marching Hundred performed alongside Madonna at the Super Bowl, with no hint that they were from IU.  In my opinion, I thought the score was elementary, but overall, a good show between the way they incorporated the score into her music and the drill.  It was, IMO, a good show.  My cudos to the Hundred.

The Periodic Table of Percussion

Kind of speaks for itself, doesn't it?
I found this on DCP, and I just had to post it.

Happy Holidays from Phantom Regiment

It's Christmas Eve day, and I'm sitting here, trying to think of a great way to say "Merry Christmas." Then I recalled seeing this video that Phantom Regiment put on Fan Network. I thought it would be great.

Merry Christmas, everyone. You too, Rick Valenzuela.

Team Demon All the Way

I know it's about four months late, but here are, in my opinion, the three best moments of the Cadets' 2011 show, "Between Angels and Demons."

Also, do you think these are the show's best moments? If not, what are they?
